Building basics

Hoobler Stone has been adding a unique dimension to building and landscaping projects for 40 years. Consistently chosen for its “natural look” and “ability to weather the harsh Australian climate”, Hoobler Stone can be used for internal and external applications, in domestic, commercial and industrial settings. And, it’s colour-fast, waterproof and maintenance free.

Preparation is the key to a beautiful paint job, and the latest range from Rust-Oleum, Smart Prime, is the way to go. Smart Prime is an all-purpose, all-surface, water-based interior and exterior undercoat. Smart Prime combines the benefits of an advanced water-based formula with the performance of an oil-based undercoat. Its unique resin system stops both water and oil stains bleeding through to the topcoat. Pictured is the Rust-Oleum Tile Transformation at work. The product is durable and long-lasting and can also be applied to floors, unlike most other tile paints.

Leading building products manufacturer Boral has launched Australia’s first metallic-finish terracotta flat-roof tiles, Meteor, in dark grey, and Galaxy, in black. These new tiles are ideal for homeowners and renovators seeking a sleek and ultra-modern finish to their home. Manufactured to Australian Standards, Boral tiles can safely channel rainwater into grey water tanks and are also salt safe and frost-resistant.

Boral overlay solid strip flooring is for those who desire the style and warmth of a solid- timber floor in a more affordable and versatile form. The 10mm-overlay flooring is the slimmest on the market and is available in Australian hardwood species: blackbutt, Sydney blue gum, brushbox and spotted gum. It is flexible to administer and is designed to be glued down over concrete, timber, plywood or particleboard flooring, adding minimal height to the existing floor.

The Sika Pave Fix Plus is Sika’s ready-to-use self-setting jointing compound for pointing gaps of 5mm or more between pavers. The product is easily brushed into place, will not wash or blow out and is also shower-resistant. Sika is ideal for reviving old patios or finishing off a freshly laid surface and can cover an area around 12.5m2 per pack. The product requires no activation to cure, ensuring it will cut down on lay time. Available in grey or buff, Sika will blend beautifully with contemporary pavers.
